Defense Ministry to construct modern multi-sport facility for army teams

The Ministry of Defence is set to construct a modern multi-sports facility that will cater for athletics in different sporting disciplines like swimming, football, tennis, hand games among others, Lieutenant General Mubarak Muganga, the chairman of APR football club and Chief of staff, Land forces has said.

The construction work will start next year in Shyorongi, on the outskirts of Kigali.

Various army teams will benefit from the facility which will be a hub for their games and training sessions. 

Currently, the Defence Ministry has multiple sports teams in various disciplines, for example football, handball, athletics and volleyball.

"The construction of the stadium and sports courts will start very soon. We are keen on the development of sports in our institution, as we are for the development of the country,” Muganga said.

The Defence Ministry will also build a five-star hotel where the teams will always be accommodated during training camps, as well as a stadium for hosting both local and international matches.

"We have a big space there where we will build a good stadium for hosting our local league and international matches. The plan is to have everything here,” he noted.
