L-R: Bruce Medlodie waiting with flowers for Kizz Daniel; Uncle Austin and Montez who is currently under his management.

Lately, a series of showbiz news have been attracting people’s attention, both on social media and in the media.

The New Times looks at the showbiz stories that made headlines during the past week.

Sandra Teta finally back home

Rwandan socialite Sandra Teta and her two kids safely arrived in Kigali following days of intense speculation of possible domestic abuse towards her.

It was reported that the former event organiser had on many occasions been subject to a series of assault by her Ugandan fiancé Weasel Manizo with whom they share two children.

Many celebrities and social media users came out to strongly to condemn the attack and urge justice, with several encouraging her to return home to Rwanda.

Teta’s parents had to travel to Kampala to see their daughter and were in regular contact with Rwanda’s High Commission in Uganda when they arrived at the Ugandan capital before brought her back to Kigali.

Teta leaves Weasel two months after the latter announced that he was planning an official wedding with her.

Uncle Austin signs Montez

Linda Montez is musically talented but she has been struggling with promoting her music over the past two years.

Uncle Austin’s promotion skills is what hooked the music diva to sign under the singer’s recently rebranded management, Uncle’s Empire, last week.

Montez joins Victor Rukotana who also returned under Austin’s management three years of separation in 2019.

‘Tufu Tufu’ and ‘Agakanzu’ are among the former The Voice Afrique contestant’s popular songs with ‘Naje’ becoming her very first release since she joined Uncle’s Empire.

Bruce Melodie’s ‘welcome flowers’ for Kizz Daniel

The singer was on Saturday pictured with protocol girls from Kigali Protocol at the Kigali International Airport carrying flowers to welcome Nigerian singer Kizz Daniel with whom they were due to share a stage at last weekend’s A Thousand Hills Festival at Canal Olympia, Rebero.

Many social media users were unimpressed to see the singer, who is regarded by many as a Rwandan music superstar, waiting for another artiste with flowers, something which many said is normally done by either protocol girls or lovebirds.

The singer took over five hours waiting for the ‘Buga’ hitmaker who and his bouncer, upon arrival, seemed not to recognise him.

His eventful act drew many criticisms on social media with many slamming Bruce Melodie for showing his ‘true level’ of stardom.

The singer hit back at the criticisms in an ironic post he made after his performance on Saturday night, saying that ‘nothing can stop you no matter what’.

Backlash as police issues warning on women’s dress code

Social media has over the past week been abuzz with criticisms towards police after issuing warning women over indecent dressing in concerts which the law enforcers claim is against cultural norms.

Pictures of some young women wearing revealing clothes at Tay C’ s concert in Kigali and some people expressed their discontent over how they dress while also calling for government’s intervention to regulate dress codes at concerts.

Police Spokesperson CP Jean Bosco Kabera later said that concert organisers, bar and pub owners are encouraged to ask people to not only present national IDs but to also ban those with indecent dressing from entering the places.

While people thought that it was just the police's opinion as long as no rules and regulations were issued publicly about what to wear and what not to wear at concerts, it came to people’s attention when some female concert goers missed Kizz Daniel’s performance on Saturday because they were dressed indecently.

Majority of the public on social media argue that police shouldn't police how people dress, even though some churches have been appealing for the government to take action on the dressing code at concerts.

The question remains: should the public's dress code be regulated?

Meddy mourning mother

US-based musician Meddy is mourning his mother, Alphonsine Cyabukombe, who passed away in Nairobi, Kenya, on Sunday due to an illness.

Reports indicate that the singer’s mother has been hospitalized in Nairobi for days where she was getting treatment for a yet to be known illness until she breathed her last on Sunday.

Although the singer is yet to react, celebrities have been sending him message of condolences since the news about her death emerged.

May her soul rest in peace.
