Rayon Sports on Tuesday announced the signing of Rwanda international Abdul Rwatubyaye on a two-year contract.

The development marks the defender's second stint with the Blues, having left the club in 2018.

The towering centre-back hasn’t been with a club since June after parting company with North Macedonian champions FC Shkupi FC.

Re-signing for Rayon came as a surprise for many after it had been reported that he was close to joining AS Kigali, where he had also been training since last month.

Rwatubyaye could not contain his excitement in his first interview as a Blues player again.

"I'm back where I call my home," he said.

The 26-year-old spent two seasons with Rayon between 2016 and 2018 and was instrumental in guiding them to the last eight of the Caf Confederation Cup in his last campaign before joining Sporting Kansas City in the U.S.

"I am here to help the team win titles again and represent our country in CAF competitions."
