APR Volleyball Club coach Elie Mutabazi is delighted after his team was crowned champions of the Kampala Amateur Volleyball tournament on Sunday night at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

APR Volleyball clubs clinched both the men’s and women’s tourneys.

In the men’s final, APR won the first set 25-23 before KAVC won two successive sets (25-19, 25-19) to take a 2-1 lead but APR fought back to take the fourth set 25-20 to force a decisive set which the army side won 15-12.

This is the third time that APR has won the trophy after triumphs in 2005 and 2018. Coach Elie Mutabazi said that he is delighted for his players who battled the host team to win the trophy.

"It was a tough game against the hosts in the final and having beaten us in the group stages, we were determined not to lose again. I thank all my players and coaching staff who did a good job,” the former APR and national team skipper said.

Meanwhile, APR women’s volleyball team beat a spirited KCCA side 3-2 to scoop the ladies’ title.

Benitha Mukandayisenga (APR) and Daudi Okello (KAVC) were the most valuable players in the women and men’s categories respectively.

The tourney attracted teams from South Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Burundi.
