The national beach volleyball team missed out on a bronze medal after losing to England in a third place game on Sunday, August 7 in Birmingham, UK.

The national beach volleyball team missed out on a bronze medal after losing to England in a third place game on Sunday, August 7 in Birmingham, UK.

Olivier Ntagengwa and Venuste Gatsinzi, the duo that represented Rwanda in the competition were beaten by England's twin brothers Javier and Joaquin Bello, who made history by claiming England's first beach volleyball medal at the games.

The Bellos won the first set 21-11and the second one 21-12.

Rwanda finished in fourth place.

Speaking to Times Sport in a telephone interview, Christopher Mudahinyuka, the coach of the national beach volleyball team praised his players’ performance at the showpiece.

"The boys played well throughout the tournament, I believe it is a generation that will take Rwanda to the top in the coming years,” he said. 

Despite not coming back with a medal, the beach volleyball national team put up amazing performances that saw them reach the semifinals for a historic first time.
