Rwanda for a historic first time, reached the semi-finals in men's beach volleyball at the Commonwealth Games after edging out New Zealand 21-18, 21-19 in Birmingham

Rwanda 2-0 New Zealand

The national beach volleyball team has reached the semi-finals in the men's category at the Commonwealth Games after beating New Zealand 2-0 in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Olivier Ntagengwa and Venuste Gatsinzi, the duo representing Rwanda, won the first set 21-18 and the second 21-19 to cruise to the semifinals.

After the game, Olivier Ntagengwa expressed happiness for the "unbelievable achievement,” but noted that they need to now focus on their semi-final tie against Australia.

Rwanda will face Australia on Saturday, August 6 in the semifinals.

This will be the second time that Rwanda is playing against Australia at this edition of the Commonwealth Games.

In the group stages, Australia beat Rwanda 2-0.

The beach volleyball games will conclude on Sunday, August 7, with both bronze and gold medal matches taking place on the day
