Volleyball: Rwanda U-21 team starts preps for African champs

Dominique Ntawangundi, the head coach of the U-21 national volleyball team has summoned 20 youngsters to start training ahead of the African U-21 Men's Volleyball Championship to be held in Tunisia from August 13 to 23.

The training is taking place at Gisagara gymnasium, in the Southern province.

Assessing the current status of players, Ntawangundi noted that they are in good shape and was impressed after their first training session on Monday.

"The boys are new to the national team, they are all eager to get playing time and improve," the head coach said.

"The first thing I noticed about them is that they are good athletes with skill and determination, we have high hopes at the African championship."

The team will train in Gisagara until August 12.

Squad list: Aime Calvin Rugambarara, Odilo Arsene Akundwe Shema, Alain Brucelle Ihirwe, Arnaud Ntayomba, Sam Mugisha, Irene Mugisha Rurangwa, Arnaud Nshuti, Jean LUC Ishimwe, Jean Paul Nshuti, Ivan Bagabe and Patrick Ishimwe.

Others are; Merci Gisubizo, D'Amour Munyamahoro, Willy Rukundo, Philippe Neri Singizwa, Kenny Ntawiha, Herve Karurarunda Tugizumukiza, Aaron Twahirwa, and Aimable Tumushime.
