Reigning champion APR missed the chance of go top of the women national football league table after being held to 1-1 draw by AS Kigali yesterday at Kicukiro artificial turf.

Ugandan striker Annet Nakinbugwe put APR in-front on the half hour mark but the on-form AS Kigali hit back in the second half through their captain Chadia Uwamahirwe.

The draw leaves the Kigali City Council side at the top with 20 points, two points clear of second placed APR. Aspej are third with 17 points.

After the match, AS Kigali goal scorer, Uwamahirwe said that they now have a massive chance of winning the league.

"This is our biggest chance to win the league and we are confident of doing so. Because our main rivals APR and Aspej have failed to beat us this season,” she said.

Fans of women football will be in for an interesting second round, which gets underway this weekend as three clubs APR, AS Kigali and Aspej are all jostling for the title.
