Basketball: U-18 teams enter residential camp ahead of Afrobasket

The U-18 national team in the boys' category have entered residential training camp in preparation for the upcoming African championships  scheduled for August 4-14 in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

The team is coached by Yves Murenzi and will camp at Green Hills Academy and will be doing training sessions at the same venue.

The team earned its ticket to the continental showpiece after putting up an impressive performance in regional qualifiers that unfolded in Kampala, Uganda, where they topped the mini-competition that also attracted neighbouring countries including Uganda and Tanzania.

So far, qualified teams for this year’s U-18 African Championship include Senegal, Egypt, Mali, Guinea, Madagascar, Rwanda and Angola. 

Other qualified teams will be announced at a later stage.

Meanwhile, US-based Power forwards Sammy Arsene Ishimwe and Nzungize Rugamba as well as Belgium-based Point guard Herve Hitimana will join camp on July 25.

While Prince Kabera, a power forward based in the USA, Briallant Brave Izere Rutsindura a centre also based in the USA is expected next week.
