Twelve teams set for second round of FIBA WCup Qualifiers

The 12-team field for the second round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 was confirmed on Sunday, following the last games of Groups A, B, C and D played in Alexandria (Egypt), Abidjan (Cote d'Ivoire) and Kigali (Rwanda).

The second round gets underway on August 26 through to August 28 with the 12 teams divided into two groups (E and F) of six teams each.

All teams carry over their first round records to the second round, where they will compete for the top five places in the African Qualifiers, which ensure a ticket in the 32-team FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 to be held in Indonesia, Japan and Philippines.

The two second round groups are as follows:

Group E: Cote d'Ivoire (6-0), Angola (4-2), Guinea (1-5), Cape Verde (3-1), Nigeria (2-2) and Uganda (1-3).

Group F: South Sudan (6-0), Tunisia (4-2), Cameroon (1-5), Egypt (5-1), DR Congo (4-2) and Senegal (3-3).

Four teams - Central African Republic, Kenya, Mali and Rwanda - were eliminated in the First Round.

The host countries for the first round of Groups E and F have not been confirmed yet.
