Saturday Rwanda 59-52 Cameroon

The national basketball team, on Saturday, July 2, beat Cameroon 59-52 to register it's first victory in the qualifiers of the FIBA World Cup 2023.

Prior to the game, Rwanda had lost all the 4 games it had played in the two windows of the qualifiers.

The win against Cameroon gives Rwanda a chance to be among the 3 teams that will advance to the next round of the qualifiers.

In Group B, Tunisia and South Sudan have already made it to the next round, while Cameroon and Rwanda will be vying for the remaining place, as each of them has registered only one victory going into the last group games that will take place on Sunday, July 3.

Rwanda's win against Cameroon was a hard fought one as the West Africans hardly gave up despite trailing for the biggest part of the game.

The first quarter ended 19-7 in favour of Rwanda, the second one 15-8 with the hosts in control, but  the Cameroonians narrowed the lead in the second half to end the game in a slightly slim 59-52 victory for Rwanda.

One of the things that stood out on the night, among others was a buzzer beater scored by William Robeyns almost from the centre of the court at the end of the second quarter.

On Sunday, Rwanda will take on Tunisia in the last game in Group B.
