Despite taking a career in hospitality, Adelphine Abewe, an entrepreneur in Kigali knew very well where her interests were. She had a passion for green plants.

After working in the hospitality industry for a while, she decided to quit and turn her hobby into a business.

This, she says, is where she finds joy and since she embraced it, she has never regretted it for once.

Just like Abewe, it’s believed that turning your hobby into a business sometimes comes with positivity and fulfilment.

In fact, Sylvester Twizerimana, a psychologist and youth mentor, says if you go for something you are truly passionate about, it gives you a clear picture of how far you can go as far as living your happy life is concerned.

The good thing about turning your hobby into a business, he says is that when it comes to progression in your career, there will be no complications as you will be doing what you love, thus things will just fall into place without much struggle.

When you decide to go for your hobby as a business, it helps you push yourself forward, unlike doing something just because you have to earn a living.

"When you love something, it keeps you off from situations where you would have to work under pressure to finish your task. You will enjoy what you are doing which comes with high returns,” he says.

Faustin Mutabazi, an entrepreneur says the good thing with turning your hobby into a business, is that it will help you to be in charge always, thus easier to make rules.

This, he says, could involve making a strategic plan, marketing your product or service, and making sales while providing great customer service that will encourage people to come for more, depending on the services you are delivering.

"The best part about turning your hobby into a business venture is that there are high possibilities of getting higher returns, as this particular enterprise continues to be an outlet for your expression and it provides an opportunity to make money,” he says.

Abewe believes that when you venture into a business that you truly love, it means you are fully committed, which comes with effort and a lot of creativity.

This, she says draws much attention from your potential clients as most of them will be going for the unique creativity of the products.

In addition to this, Abewe says one thing she has come to realise is that there’s no better feeling than loving what you do and knowing that other people love what you create.

She says that this comes with a lot of benefits including boosting your self-esteem, as well as giving you the pride of knowing that you are good at what you do, this alone is self-motivation to work hard.

"This will definitely motivate you to work harder to become a successful business person and reap the benefits of success in life. In addition, your reputation will also improve, which is an essential aspect when it comes to business,” she adds.
