AFTER A SUCCESSFUL EDITION at Kagitumba, last year, the liberation tourism trail tour is back this year on July 2 to 3 in Nyagatare District.

Dubbed ‘The Agasanimetero story’, the liberation tour is organised by different parties, including Divine Inshuti, Alex Muyoboke and Michael Bahizi. The tour will educate the attendees about the liberation story of ‘Agasanimetero’ and host a night show dubbed ‘Igitaramo cyo Kwibohora’ with Mariya Yohana, Cyusa n'inkera and Alouette Munganyinka.

Rwanda is set to mark the 28th liberation anniversary on Monday, July 4. The day also marks the end of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, which claimed the lives of over a million people before it was brought to a halt by the forces of Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF).

Inshuti, one of the organisers of the tour, told The New Times that, the tourism trail tour encompasses of phases 1 and 2 combined.

"The journey will start from Kigali and end at Silent Hill Hotel located in Kayonza District. We will visit different places including Tabagwe-Gishuro-Kaborogota-Gikoba-Shonga (the key terrain)-Kabuga and lastly to Karama, "she said.

During the trail, Inshuti added that they will learn more about the ‘the Agasanimetero’ through story-telling with Medard Bashana, an expert of the liberation trail. This is a fun story and even though most people hear about ‘Agasanimetero’ they don’t really know what it means and where it came from in the first place. On the night of July 2, we will as well have different traditional artistes entertaining people with liberation songs.”

To participate, an individual is required to pay Rwf100,000, while a couple has to part with Rwf160,000 for the trail. The fee will cover transport, lunch, dinner, hotel room and a ticket to ‘Igitaramo cyo Kwibohora’. The attendees will spend the night at the hotel.
