Top seed struggling to raise funds

Rwanda’s top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa could miss out on the Kenya money circuit cash after failing to garner enough money to travel.

The tennis ace, who has been training intensively at Cercle Sportif, revealed to Times Sport yesterday that he was struggling to raise the required money to cater for his accommodation, meals, and transport.

"I really want to take part in the Kenya circuit but as things stand, I may miss out because I have failed to raise the required money,” the 26-year-old said.

Meanwhile, Dieudonne Habiyambere, Olivier Nkunda and Meagan Ingabire have confirmed that they will travel to Nairobi.

Habiyambere and Nkunda, who have been shaping up at Cercle Sportif will compete in the men’s category while Ingabire, who reached the semi-final of the Tusker-Malt sponsored Uganda Open early this year will compete in the women category.

The trio leaves on Monday, two days before the $4,500 tournament gets underway at Nairobi’s Parklands sports club.

The pair struggled for form in the first phase of the money circuit that was jointly staged in Burundi and Rwanda back in February but Habiyambere believes that this is an opportunity for them to make amends.

"In the build up to the Kenya Circuit, we have had very good training sessions so we are hopeful things will turn out okay in Nairobi,” he said.
