Basketball: Rwanda U-18 team crowned Zone V champions

The U-18 boys' national basketball team have beaten Tanzania to win the 2022 FIBA Zone Five U-18 Afrobasket preliminaries in Kampala.

Rwanda national Under-18 boys’ team are the 2022 FIBA Africa Zone V champions.

The youngsters claimed the title of the biennial regional tournament after a 84-49 blowout of Tanzania in their final game at the MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo, Uganda to finish the one-week long tournament the only unbeaten team

Dick Rutatika Sano and Ghislain Nubaha contributed a combined 19 points-11points each.

Also, Dick Rutatika Sano has been crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.

The boys’ category had representatives from three countries; Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda, all playing in a two-legged round robin format.

By winning this title, Rwanda automatically qualified for this year’s FIBA Africa Under-18 Championship finals – set for August 4-14 at the Mahamasina Sports Palace in Antananarivo in Madagascar.
