RWANDAN afro blues, folk and soul vocalist, Kaya Byinshii, is set to perform unreleased tracks of her upcoming debut album next week at Institut Francais Rwanda.

The fast rising artiste who is among other musicians signed under Green Ferry Music label, home to Kinya-trappers and other dope musicians in the country, will unveil her unreleased album after the ‘We Don’t Know Love’ acoustic EP that she dropped last year.

Talking to The New Times, Byinshii says that from the concert, her fans will have a chance to experience half of the songs on the new album dubbed ‘Ukwiyuburura’, performed live for the first time a few weeks prior to the actual release.

She further says that the pre-release concert aims to also give her fans an opportunity to contribute to further visual development of the project through donations.

On site, she says, limited coupons will be available for purchase at Institut Francais Rwanda, where the concert will take place on Friday, 17 June.

"‘Ukwiyuburura’ is a project composed in a fusion of genres from across the world in original afro-touch compositions mostly produced by my musical collaborator of two years, Dr Nganji. The album was recorded from mid-2021 to 2022, but the pandemic delayed completion of production until recently,” says Byinshii.

"The pre-release concert will be a thrilling and elevating live experience with a couple of creative friends. Let’s all come early and celebrate good music,” she adds.

According to the singer, ‘Ukwiyuburura’ is a word for a snake ‘skin peeling’ process, and with the use of metaphor in this project, she will walk her fans through her journey, one that she believes everyone goes through.
