Dinning at Soleluna Italian restaurant

Unlike in eating joints across the world where pizzas are served almost everywhere, this yummy food is a rarity in Kigali, served in a few restaurants. I bet all pizza lovers will agree with me.

After a five minute debate with my friends about where to go for dinner and what to eat, I happened to get it right. My choice of restaurant was Soleluna Italian restaurant, and the attraction was none other than pizza!

Soleluna is a fancy Italian restaurant situated on the main road heading to Remera, after the popular Gicucu, but before Kisementi crossroads and Chez Lando. The exclusive restaurant serves delicious pizza at an affordable price.

A friend of mine asked a waiter to select for him the yummiest pizza. The waiter recommended grilled pizza Margarita and cheesy Neapolitan pizza.

Torn between two of his favourite main courses, Jean Marie (not real name) opted for both. The thick crust with oil and butter, providing a crisp, bread-like texture and buttery flavour was his favourite.

Chantelle followed his example and also ordered the  Neapolitan pizza, which has a thin crust and really nice tomato sauce, covered by  a blanket of cheese.

As for me, I must admit that I am an obsessed meat-lover. And as a matter of fact, my choice was ham, pepperoni and sausage, although initially I was tempted to choose the veggie pizza, which has enough colour and greenery to make you think you are eating a tossed salad.

Now getting to the other side of the menu, there was a variety of drinks, ranging from soft drinks, tea (both strong coffee and African tea), beers, wines and liquors of all brands.

Jean Marie had his favourite drink Guiness with coca, while the rest of us opted for wine in fun filled evening.

Most Rwandan teenagers are known for being outgoing, but very healthy conscious, probably the best reason why most of them  are not obese.

Sharon (another friend), seemed not bothered about the people around us or general etiquette. She yelled out in thrill: "Please, I’ll have Marinara pizza! I like its hot chilli sauce. It’s more succulent and really yummier!”

To some people, especially the westerners, pizzas are a popular main course and the best dish ever! Pizzas with olive oil, garlic, fresh basil, oregano, grilled mussels, white clams, lobster, are fantastic and people love them the most.

"I’ve had the pizzas at Kabana for several occasions, but Soleluna’s pizzas seem to be my best choice,” says Alex Kalisa.

The interior of Soleluna is simple, but cosy with good designs, table cloths, and fresh flowers on the wooden tables.

Besides its unique menu and creative decor, Soleluna is among a few restaurants in Kigali with reasonable clientele, clean, and quick services.

The music in the background is cool enough to allow you engage in decent, enjoyable conversation with your partner, or friends.

However, the restaurant is a bit hidden, thus making it hard for most people who have never visited the place before to locate it.

From the Remera main road view, Soleluna restaurant looks empty, with a small gate which is often closed. The parking is in the backyard of the restaurant, with a guard in civilian wear.
