As a way of embracing ICT for efficiency, Rwanda Revenue Authority will soon, launch an application for issuing Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) online.

The development, according to the Director of Taxpayer Services, Gérard Mukubu, is to facilitate trade and business growth.

"The online system has come to take care of the customer needs which are our prime consideration. We normally strive to improve the quality of the services we give and aim at exceeding our customers’ expectations,” said Mukubu during an interview. He stressed that the way the service will work will depend on the location of the user.

"We believe that if someone can have access to the internet this person will be able to log in on the RRA website and submit his or her request which will be immediately responded to after cross checking with their file,” Mukubu elaborated.

According to the official in charge of the project, beneficiaries will be required to feed in information like Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), reason for applying, Bank details, National ID/ passport/ trade licence number and an email address.

The official said that list of the required attachment will automatically be displayed and information will be sent to RRA to be processed by the staff in charge and immediately provide a response.

"We urge Taxpayers to constantly check their emails since it’s another way through which RRA may contact them when need arises. For those who have no email addresses, we encourage them to acquire them as soon as they can,” Mukubu said.

Outlining some of the benefits that will come with the application Mukubu said that it will take less time, reduce the number of taxpayers queuing at RRA offices, facilitate taxpayers who tender on a short notice and also curb forgery.

"For a successful implementation of this project, we call upon all taxpayers and stakeholders to be ICT compliant which will let RRA serve you better,” he noted.

Tax clearance certificate has been one of the documents prioritised to be issued within just two days. It is projected that once the system is up and running, this time will be reduced to hours instead of days.
