As an employee, having the ability to productively and effectively handle new and unpredictable situations at work can be an added advantage.

As a worker, you are considered resourceful when you can go beyond your required duties, to seek means of creating useful and unique solutions in challenging situations. 

Faustin Mutabazi, an entrepreneur says the main reason employers want resourceful employees, is that they often demonstrate other useful soft skills in their problem-solving abilities.

He says that this is so because when you are resourceful, it means you possess other positive employable characteristics that are required for you to be competitive.

Mutabazi points out that one way of becoming resourceful is by being an open-minded person, always.

Moving outside of your comfort zone and breaking a few boundaries will help you understand the reality of your situation and work on ways of overcoming the challenges, he says.

Jacinta Mugo, a motivational speaker and educator in Kigali says having confidence in everything you do is a great way of being resourceful.

She mentions that self-assurance is the gateway to success in everything you set to do, and that you can do this by developing confidence and proving that you can perform your duties.

Besides, she says that being creative when it comes to thinking is also helpful as far as being resourceful is concerned.

Mugo notes that at the workplace, for instance, being resourceful requires one to have skills to help you be productive all the way.

"It is also not advisable to give up on things, instead, learn to become more motivated in every situation so that it can help you to succeed when it comes to challenges,” she says.

 Mutabazi notes that being resourceful requires one to be patient, noting that; resourcefulness becomes helpful mostly amid a tough situation.

"When you are a resourceful person, you are in position to approach it with patience and clarity. It allows you to stop analysing the situation at hand, and figure out a strategic solution,” he says.

 Meanwhile, according to studies, another way of being resourceful is by building a strong network. This is so because resourceful people are so adept at finding solutions due to their strong network of professionals.

This is believed to help one make a conscious effort to grow and nurture their network to build lasting professional relationships.

Also, it is believed that a resourceful person’s network is crucial to their problem-solving, considering other people are often the greatest resource of all.

In addition to this, taking initiative is also important as this is an attractive quality in job applicants because it indicates an individual who is dependable and has strong leadership qualities.
