Bamporiki placed under house arrest amid corruption investigation

Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has confirmed the arrest of Edouard Bamporiki, the former State Minister of Youth and Culture for allegedly ‘serious’ corruption cases and related crimes.

According to the investigation Body’s official Twitter account, the suspect is under house arrest pending further investigations into the case.

This follows his suspension as Minister of State in the Ministry of Youth and Culture, according to a statement released on Thursday, May 5, 2022, signed by Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente on behalf of President Paul Kagame.

Bamporiki was appointed to the cabinet in 2019, and also served as Chairman of Rwanda's National Itorero Commission.

In 2013 he was elected a Member of the Rwandan Parliament, Lower Chamber.
