Reasons to make work more enjoyable
Tuesday, May 03, 2022

Dreading to wake up in the morning to go for work is not a good sign. It is not unusual to be at work and feel bored, but dreading work to the extent of wanting to quit shouldn’t be something to tolerate.

It is possible to work a career that is enjoyable and have motivation to wake up always and go to work.

Many people think "fun” is something that belongs only in recess, vacation, weekends, and childhood. But fun is a fantastically expansive word, it is subjective and fulfilling, and when employees pursue their idea of it, it’s also beneficial to work, Indeed, an American worldwide employment website notes in their article about tips on making work fun.

Emma Daniel, founder of Give Them Hope Rwanda says that bringing fun to work should not only be a task for employees, but also for managers.

"It is very important for workers to be motivated and let them enjoy their everyday job through giving them good working conditions, not pressuring them because while they can work under that stress, productivity will be very low. Employees can find their own ways to make work more fun and enjoyable but it will start with managers,” he says.

He also adds that when a worker is given more room to express his or her potential, it helps the organisation to have different observances but with one mind-set. Hence leaders need to let workers have fun which will motivate them and encourage high productivity.

Reine Uwayo, a sales specialist says making work more fun does not mean going against workplace regulations as many people may think.

"Making work enjoyable and fun does not mean blasting music in office or hosting games in office. It means finding ways that are different from those you were used to when working, ways that are more fun and that bring productivity out, ways like interacting with co-workers more often, bringing new related activities that everyone will enjoy and all that.”

Tips on making work more fun

Thrive works shares a few tips to help in creating fun at work or making work enjoyable:

Start your day off right

If you start your day off in a bad mood or with a poor attitude, then chances are you won’t have a super enjoyable day at work. Instead, set yourself up for a great workday, ensure your morning goes smoothly.

Build relationships with your co-workers

Work doesn’t have to be void of fun—it’s okay to talk and laugh with your co-workers. In fact, building relationships with them can make work a whole lot more enjoyable.

Take breaks

I don’t care how much work you have to get done today, tomorrow, or by the end of the week, it’s vital to your wellbeing and the quality of your work, that you take a break every now and again.

Unplug once the workday is over

Don’t bring work home with you when it’s time to leave the office, it’s time to unplug and recuperate. If you’re constantly thinking about work when you aren’t at work, then you’ll eventually despise your job. Create healthy boundaries.

Don’t sweat the small stuff

The quickest way to stress yourself out is to worry about every little thing that goes wrong: traffic caused you to be five minutes late, and your internet is moving at a snail’s pace.
