With just 24 hours away from the second edition of the BCR Mug of Mugs, golfers can’t wait to contend for one of the local golf’s most coveted tournament.

The event which was initiated last year as the climax of the first season of the BCR monthly mug is set to roll into its second edition this Saturday.

However, unlike last year, the format for this year has changed. According to the Kigali Golf Club officials, this year’s BCR Mug of Mugs will run concurrently with the October edition of the BCR monthly mug.

"We shall have two events in one. We shall have the cream contending for the Mug of mugs and the rest fighting for the October monthly mug,” the club captain Rajan Tiwari confirmed.

Just like last year, the sponsors Rwanda Commercial Bank (BCR) has promised a colorful event.

"Last year, we had an excellent event that pleased everyone so we are looking forward to having something similar to this or even better,” BCR’s marketing manager Hannington Namara said.

Last year, Emmanuel Ruterana took home the coveted prize but will not defend the title after going into the professional ranks early this year.

Instead, Thierry Ntaganda (handicap 21) and Jean Baptist Hakizimana (handicap +2) are the top contenders after their remarkable displays in the 2006-7 BCR monthly mug calendar.

Out of eleven monthly mug honours, the pair have claimed seven mugs between themselves.
