‘Love Drunk Party’ cancelled mid-show

Despite the abrupt halt, there was an impressive turn up at the show.

The highly anticipated ‘Love Drunk Party’ that was slated to be headlined by Nigeria’s Ycee was called mid-show after coming to an abrupt halt, leaving revelers disappointed on Saturday evening at Hotel Villa Portofino.

The Nigerian star had promised an amazing show, but the promises fell short after the sound system was shut off at around 10:30pm just after the Trappish Gang artistes had performed for the crowd.

The event had started slightly late, with Soldier Kid appearing on stage at 09:15pm. He was interrupted by MC Tino who was supposed to introduce the show. Major Phablah was later introduced on stage but it was France that managed to cheer the crowd with her single ‘Gake’.

With some nice dance moves Babu Tight King showed up and changed the mood completely as the audience began to groove along. In between performances, DJs were given time to play mixes as the revelers kept increasingly turning up.

MC Tino announced that Ish Kevin suggests to see all the Trapish Gang on stage. For some non-communicated reasons, they all didn’t get on stage except OG 2Tone who delivered amazing performances that got the Trapish fans singing along.

Unfortunately after his performance the show was immediately cancelled.

However, while waiting for Ycee, the headliner and Ish Kevin, Gabiro Guitar and Ycee among other artistes to perform, the show was cancelled by the Vice Mayor of the City of Kigali due to noise.

Yvan Ruhetesha who attended this event said, "This is not the first time an event got closed out of the blue at this hotel. The other time this happened and we were told that it was an order from some neighborhood. We don’t know why.”

One of the hotel managers, who preferred to speak on anonymity, blamed the event organizers for failing to keep time.

"We are so sorry about this. But, the event was supposed to start at 2:00 pm and close at 10:30 pm. Obviously, they didn’t respect the time and so this resulted in cancellation after the agreed time reached. We didn’t close this event as a hotel, it is the authority and so far we can’t do anything about it since we already got a warning that if we don’t close the party, they will close the hotel and we can’t risk that,” he told The New Times.

It was announced to the audience that the party will commence at The Keza Hotel, but the audience could hear none of it.
