REG 86-92 DUC

Rwandan representatives in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2022, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Basketball Club, on Friday, March 11, lost against Senegal's Dakar University Club (DUC) 86-92 at the Dakar Arena in Senegal.

The result means REG will wait a little bit longer to qualify for the playoffs that will take place in Kigali in May.

Currently, REG is second in the Sahara Conference, with two games left to play.

This is a good position that makes them serious contenders to be among the top 4 teams which will proceed out of the conference.

Friday's game was the first win for DUC, while it was the first loss for REG who won their first two opening games.

Playing before the home fans, DUC put up a determined display that saw them walk away with victory on the night, thanks to team work and some individual brilliance from players like Adama Diakhite who came off the bench register 30 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals.

Three DUC players - including Hameed Ali, Abel Diop and Bamba Diallo – combined for 40 points.

On REG's side, Adonis Filer led the way by contributing a team-high 23 points, Dieudonne Ndizeye added 14 points, Cleveland Thomas Jr finished with 16 points and Jean Jacques Nshobozwabyosenumukiza contributed 11 points off the bench.

"We expected them to come out and fight. We didn’t expect an easy game. We’re going back to the hotel, watch film and prepare for our next game,” noted REG Head Coach Robert Pack.

REG will back in action on Monday against leaders US Monastir.
