Boxers of Remera Boxing Club have complained of persistent dire training conditions ahead of the next month’s national championship.

The club that has its training gym at Amahoro national stadium can’t afford to facilitate the boxers’ minimum training requirements like refreshments or even transport allowances in case of the student-boxers.

"This is like an international event (referring to next months event),” said Jean Morris Bikorimana, a 64 Kg national team player and a student at ETK-Gikondo.

"I like boxing and I’d do all it takes to be the best in the country at my weight, which mean training hard and a lot even under stringent conditions like we go through.

"We are just at the beginning of our careers and it’s a challenge for us to go through the pains,” added Theoneste Gakunzi, also of a member of the club as well as the national team.

About next month’s national championship, the first of the year, the boxers expressed their desire to dominate their opponents form rival clubs in a bid to consolidate their places on the national team for the coming Beijing Olympics qualifiers early nest year.

"The event will determine whether we stay on the team or out but we are optimistic about winning our respective bouts.

Remera boxing club is the best in the in the country,” the two boxers noted unanimously stressed.

And their confidence was supplemented by their coach Moses Mpima who wants to see his club dominate the national team.
Currently, Remera boosts of six boxers on the national team but the Ugandan born coach wants the number to more than double to 14.

Despite all that, Mpima also agrees that the training conditions are not favorable but the boxers must take the pain train hard to win next month’s national event.

"We have all the equipments and there is little doubt that we shall emerge the winners of the national championship,” said Mpima adding that although the boxers have no refreshments during and after their training sessions at Amahoro Gym they have the desire and determination to succeed in their career.

The national championship is scheduled for November 1-4 at Amahoro indoor stadium.

Mpima hit out at what he described as "lazy” club administrators who have consistently failed to seek out for sponsorship to run their club.
