‘Between the Lines’, is an artwork exhibition by Epaphrodite Binamungu, which he officially opened in Kigali on February 24.

"Read the life circumstances, read through the world that we live in with all the climate changes, pandemics, and all sanitary issues. Regardless of all, there is life and that is why I want to go with you all to see through ‘Between the Lines’ and I am so sure that you will see all those that I mentioned and some more,” said Binamungu in his speech as he officially opened the exhibition.

In an exclusive interview with The New Times he added that, "Between the Lines portrays all the ideas of how I see, listen and want to express my ideas. This is me delivering my message to everyone. I am yet to celebrate my 50th anniversary as an artist since I started doing artwork exhibitions in 1973 and so far so good.”

Binamungu declared that Rwandans are expressing their love towards arts which is a very nice step forward since they can look at a certain art and appreciate it, hence manage to see between the lines and get the messages in such artworks.

He urged fellow Rwandan artists to never sit back.

"We are doing good, but we can still do better. It will all start from Rwandan artists. They have to stand up and create awareness to all Rwandans and help them to understand, love and support art way more.”

The exhibition is taking place at Hotel des Mille Collines' Inganzo Arts Gallery and will last for 10 consecutive days.

"I am so happy and proud that I made it and expressed how I think and see the world. I expect people to come here and look at the artworks as well as get the message in between the lines. Not only that; but also after all I have invested in all these and took enough time to get to the best final results, I expect to sell and do business from my profession.” Binamungu said.

The relevance of this artwork exhibition is to call upon all artists to be ambitious and never bite more than what they can chew.

Instead, be creative enough in all their artworking techniques. This will enable them to have some uniqueness as well as build their names’ legacy.

The artist further revealed that this is one of the four artworks that he did during the Covid-19 pandemic. He added that since 1982 he has been doing Artwork Exhibitions at Hotel des Mille Collines in Rwanda. He also has some artworks in most African countries.

In Europe, he exhibited in Italy, France, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, USA and more. Australia and Japan are on his wishlist.

When asked about the feedback he has received in relation to this, Binamungu said,

"I have a golden book and some people who attended this opening wrote their ideas in the book. They shared some feedback that I did good, they opened up and said that they still want more from me as well. I am so glad to receive the congratulatory messages and questions from them all showing how interested they are to get the messages that I wanted to share with them.”

The exhibition will end on March 6.
