Rayon Sports will host APR FC at the Kigali Stadium on Saturday, February 27, in the Rwanda premier league match.

Undoubtedly, this is the biggest game each year on the Rwandan football calendar and it has over the years lived up to the hype and expectations.

It will be the 93rd meeting between the two clubs in the history of the premier league as each of the teams wants to have the bragging rights after 90 minutes.

The derby has over the years seen some wonderful individual displays and Times Sport brings takes you through memory lane as we take a look at some of the players who excelled in games between the two clubs in the past seven years.

Kasirye Davis

The Rayon Sports striker had his name inked in the history books of Rwandan football when he netted a hat trick on May 4, 2016 at the Amahoro Stadium in the crunch derby with APR FC.

The Ugandan striker played like a man being possessed that day as he single handedly gunned down the Army club in his side’s 4-0 win.

Michel Ndahinduka

In the 2014/ 2015 season, APR FC also walloped Rayon Sports by four goals to nothing at the Amahoro Stadium on February 22, 2015 in a league game which was watched by a full capacity stadium.

APR started the annihilating exercise very late as they scored their first goal in the 75th minute through Michel Ndahinduka. The striker was superb on the day as he led his team to victory with some breathtaking output.

Michael Sarpong

The Ghanaian striker masterminded Rayon Sports’ 1-0 win against APR FC on April 20, 2019 as the "Blues” went on to win the title.

Sarpong, who had tormented the APR defenders all day with his pace, power and artistry netted the only goal of the game in the 93rd minute through a penalty after Emmanuel Imanishimwe brought down Gilbert Mugisha.

It is a Saturday many Rayon Sports fans will forever remember due to the exploits of Sarpong.

Djabel Manishimwe

The first round game of the derby between Rayon Sports and APR this season was played at the Kigali Stadium on November 23, 2021 with the Army club winning 2-1.

APR had to come from behind to win the match and one player who made that victory possible was Djabel Manishimwe.

He was exceptional that day as he controlled the midfield and dictated the pace of the game. Manishimwe restored parity for his side with a superb strike in the 38th minute and was by far the man of the match.
