Basketball: National team starts training in Dakar

The national basketball team, on Saturday, February 19, arrived in Dakar – Senegal where they will be participating in the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifiers that get underway on February 25 through 27.

The players and all the staff that traveled with them are being accommodated at Onomo Hotel in Dakar.

Having had some rest on Saturday night, the team is now set to embark on their first training session at Maruis Ndiaye Stadium under the guidance of head coach Cheikh Sarr as they prepare for a friendly game against Egypt this week, before they get into competitive action of the qualifying campaign.

The national team was placed in Group B of the qualifiers along with Cameroon, South Sudan and reigning African champions Tunisia.

The team will start their qualifying campaign against South Sudan on February 25.

Star shooting guard Kenny Gasana joined camp on Sunday while Belgium-based power-forward William Robeyns jets on Monday.
