When will Matimba get clean water?

Editor,

As a Rwandan citizen, I believe I have a constitution right to claim proper welfare; and it is from that account that I wish to inquire from the concerned persons when people from my area will stop sharing water with wild and domestic animals.

It is really shameful to be near two permanent water bodies like rivers Kagera and Muvumba but staying without clean water.

I am not asking the state to do something for me, while I sit and do nothing. Some of us, as a community of Matimba have brought up an idea of contributing money and, therefore, assisting the government in getting us clean water; this along with the usual taxes we pay.

But our ‘local leaders’ have let us down in one way or another.

Imagine, clean water was provided to us, in partnership with Oxfam after the 1994 liberation war, but as soon as Oxfam had to leave, the machines that were dilapidated were never replaced since and this is unacceptable.

The only thing that is missing is a simple water pump.

Contamination and water born diseases like cholera, bilhazia and diarrhoea will break out anytime if the problem is not resolved as early as humanely possible.

Can someone who, who has a direct line to the people concerned with availing clean water to those who don’t have it, help us as we continue sharing water with wild and domestic animals.

All this while some lucky Rwandans enjoying the advantages of cooking and preparing drinks with clean water?

Thank you,
