Kirehe : Over 100 breeders regain land titles
Friday, January 28, 2022

Kirehe district on Wednesday commenced registration of land titles for 114 livestock farmers who had no access to their plots for the last 20 years ago.

They are located in Nyarubuye and Mpanga districts where the exercise commenced, with plans to be shifted to other sectors of Mpanga and Nasho.

Most of the livestock farmers who got full ownership on their land had lost them in 2003, having been registered by others which prompted the government  to suspend the exercise and conduct a swift process to find out the owner of the land.

The exercise also aimed at recuperating the government’s land that had been taken up by citizens, and registered up to 275 hectares in this case.

Bruno Rangira, the mayor of Kirehe district said that the land titles will give livestock farmers access to various financial services.

"These titles will help you to access loans from banks and other financial institutions so as to make sure you increase your productivity and endeavor in other economic development activities.”

All the land titles that were given to the livestock farmers occupy 555 hectares of land in the two sectors.
