Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and IPRC-Kigali basketball clubs have both been drawn in Group A of this year’s Basketball pre-season tournament.

Scheduled to run from January 28 to February 2, the competition is a curtain-raiser for the new season and will attract eight men’s teams and six teams in the women’s category.

The matches will be played at Amahoro indoor stadium and on the outside courts of Amahoro Stadium.

The men’s category has been divided into two groups A and B, each comprising four teams that will face each other, with the top two advancing to the semi-finals.

In Group A, defending champions REG and IPRC-Kigali are joined by United Generation for Basketball (UGB), while Group B comprises Patriots Tigers, APR and Shoot for The Stars.

Last year, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) won the pre-season tournament after beating IPRC-Kigali 67-53 in the finals, while in the women's category IPRC-Huye basketball retained the title after beating The Hoops 71-59.

Meanwhile, the new season will get underway in March, after the national team will have finished playing in the first window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup qualifiers that take place late February in Senegal.
