This festive season will find a good number of people in quarantine due to new government measures that require travellers arriving in Rwanda to isolate themselves for three days.

Besides this, Covid-19 cases have been on the rise in recent weeks, and as a result, many infected people will spend Christmas at home, recovering from the virus.

Spending such an important holiday in isolation is not something that is comfortable, but here are 6 activities you can do to still have a good time.

1. Enjoy a good meal

Whether you are isolating from home or in a hotel, having a good meal is one of the ways that will boost your Christmas.

Hotels, where people are having their quarantine, are expected to provide special menus during the festive season, so try to enjoy this.

For instance, speaking to The New Times, Egide Bukumura, the General Manager St. Famille Hotel, one of the designated facilities for quarantining arriving travellers noted:

"A special menu will be provided for about a whole week. We have for example added grilled dishes to the food we were providing,” he said.

If you are isolated at home, you can still fix a good meal for yourself or let friends make one for you and deliver it.

2. Make a video call with family

Just because you can't get together in person doesn't mean you can't see your friends and family. There are a number of platforms that you can use to make a group video call with family and have a good conversation on Christmas. For example, you can use Zoom, Skype or even WhatsApp, among others to host your party online.

3. Send a gift to a loved one

Sharing gifts is a beautiful practice done by many people during the Christmas season. However, when you are in isolation, you can’t visit friends and give gifts to them. Despite this, you can still send gifts via the various delivery mechanisms in the country, for example, e-commerce companies.

4. Play virtual Christmas games with friends and family

Games like arranging a Christmas puzzle or answering a Christmas quiz with family can be fun on Christmas.

There are a number of websites, for example, with which you can generate your own quiz and then share the link with friends and family so that everyone can try to answer and rate themselves at the end of it.

Such can be a way of keeping company with friends and family and keeping the conversation flowing.

5. Attend an online Christmas church service

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, churches have been improving their capabilities for live-streaming their services. Thus, you can expect a number of them to stream Christmas services and you can follow, sing-along and pray with them.
