Allow me, in the same vein, express my concern over the article that was published on last Friday October 12, 2007 on the features page titled ‘Adolescents missing school during menstruation call for sanitary pads.’

I want to thank the reporter for becoming the voice of voiceless school girls over such serious issue that touches almost every body in the society.

In fact, more research is required to find out more about these health issues that have become a hindrance to girl child education. The number of adolescent students missing schools or confused of what do during menstruation periods is endless.

To be honest with you, these sanitary towels are expensive and cannot be afforded by school going age. Many parents would love to support their daughters with these pads, but poverty has hit most of our families.

I just urge the ministry of education and other ministries to look into this matter and find a solution to it.
