Police Handball keen to sweep local trophies after ECAHF triumph

After successfully defending the East and Central Africa Handball Federation (ECAHF) Clubs Championship, Police Handball Club are aiming to win several local trophies, including the league.

On Saturday, December 5, the club defeated Kenya's Cereals 28-27 in the finals of the ECAHF in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to claim the regional title for a second time in a row.

Reflecting on the success of ECAHF, Police head coach Antoine Ntabanganyimana told Times Sport that it was such a great achievement, noting that the competition included strong teams.

"We used our strength to achieve our goal," he said.

In regard to the targets that they have going forward, Ntabanganyimana said they are going to prepare to participate in all the local competitions, and try to win them.

"We are going to continue training, because our plan is to compete in all local competitions and be able to take them, including the national league," he said.

The club will be doing their training for the national league at Kimisagara Youth Center Grounds.

The national league is expected to start in January, subject to the Handball federation general assembly’s confirmation.

The general assembly will sit on December 18 and is expected to announce the official date of the national league, and the Heroes tournament.

Police has added new players added to their squad this year including, Elyse Muhumure from Gicumbi, Yves Umuhire from Gicumbi, Patrick Turambane from Inyemeramihigo and Jean de Dieu Ntambara from Adege Gituza.

The players released by the Police are: Blax Nkengurutse, Felix Mukunzi, and Fidele Hagenimana.
