RUTSIRO -  A thirteen year- old boy from Ruhango Sector in Rutsiro District was burnt to death by a herdsman.

Sources from the Sector told The New Times that Byiringiro Mbeyi whose parents; Erias Kanyeshuri and Generose Nyiramasoko are genocide survivors, was burnt to death by the worker just metres away from their home.

On late Saturday, Byiringiro was reportedly sent by his parents as usual, to supply food to the alleged assailant who could only be identified Rwibasira, when Byiringiro arrived at the kraal, Rwibasira convinced the teenager to spend the night.

Since they were familiar to each other, Byiringiro accepted.  According to Ruhango Sector Executive Secretary, Diuedonne Mutarugera, Byiringiro was killed two hours later.

"At around 9pm, the suspected murderer killed Byiringiro and took his body to a nearby kraal owned by one Jean Badaga,” he said.

At the kraal, Rwibasira reportedly met three other colleagues who were identified as Bazimaziki, Muhawenimana and Ndagijimana.

The assailants reportedly decided to burn the now dead teenager in the kraal. According to residents who were at the scene, this was evidence that the quartet formed a joint criminal enterprise to kill Byiringiro.

After Byiringiro was killed, one of the assailants, Muhawenimana, reportedly sounded an alarm and residents appeared at the scene but he later escaped after the child was found dead.

The other culprits were immediately held at Ruhango Police post but by press time, interrogation results revealed that none of them had explained why the late Byiringiro was killed.

However, Genocide survivors from Gihira cell where the incident took place, during an interview revealed that Byiringiro’s death was in connection with the Genocide ideology.

The New Times later learnt from another survivor who spoke on condition of anonymity, that Rwibasira’s father participated in the killing of Kanyeshuri’s relatives during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

On Sunday morning, an abrupt district security meeting was convened at the scene where security officials accused residents of being reluctant to exchange information on such acts.
