Umushyikirano slated for December 20
Friday, November 26, 2021

The National dialogue council, Umushyikirano, will take place on 20 and 21 December at Kigali Convention Centre, according to the office of the Government Spokesperson.

Umushyikirano is an annual home-grown initiative that provides a platform for leaders and ordinary citizens to discuss issues affecting the nation, including governance and national unity.

This year’s edition will be attended by members of Cabinet, Parliament, representatives from the Rwandan community abroad, local government, the diplomatic community, as well as members of the press.

During the 18th edition of the dialogue, senior government officials will also sign performance contracts also known as Imihigo.

Last year’s edition was cancelled due to the upsurge of Covid-19 cases at the time, which also led to the suspension of other events including major conferences.

The conference is often a time for Rwandans to directly engage with their leaders about the country’s challenges, opportunities and growth as well as the country’s development agenda.

Presided over by the Head of State, Umushyikirano is mandated by the Constitution and it is attended by central and local government officials, diaspora Rwandans, diplomats, civil society organisations as well as private sector operators.
