Sharks     120-0 Simba

Lion de Fer 22-13 Grizzlies

Simba Rugby Club had a rough start to this year’s rugby league when it faced Sharks RFC over the weekend.

The experienced Sharks pooled a whopping 8 tries (40 points) in the first half with national team hooker Bernabe Ngizwenayo’s boot converting six of them to give his team a 52-00 lead at half time.

The Kanombe-based put up a spirited fight in the second half but eventual top scorer Tharcise Kamanda broke the resistance after fifteen minutes with a try. Then more tries came in to end the match at 120-00.

To a casual reader, score sheet might look like Simba was not on the pitch but they made some brilliant tackles and actually won so many turnovers. They however seemed to be short of ideas when they got the ball.

"I don’t mind the score. My plan is to ensure that Simba plays all its league games this year. I commend the boys’ spirit,” said new coach Joseph Bugabo.

Bugabo left UNR Grizzlies which he founded this year due to work commitments and the distance.

Many pundits believe Simba just like the Grizzlies will soon be a force to reckon with because of his vast experience as a player and coach.

In the other game, the National University of Rwanda’s Grizzlies suffered their second defeat after going down 22-13 against Lions de Fer.
