Exercise for your body to be active and healthy./ Net photo

With our daily routine of work and home responsibilities, a person is bound to feel bored, drained and exhausted especially for those who work hard without getting enough rest.

The last five months have been the most challenging for me, doing the same things over again made me tired and sick. Truth be told, I lost my morale. I felt like something was missing, but I couldn’t figure out what it was for sure.

Listening to the sound of the alarm every morning and wondering how to make my days more fun and productive hasn’t been smooth. But then, I had to find a quick solution before worrying myself to stress and depression.

These are some of the activities that have worked for me; I am much better, happier and healthier;

Eat well

Don’t underestimate the power of healthy feeding. I noticed that I was not feeding properly and my body somehow lacked energy. I love junk food and I can’t go two days without it. But for health purposes, I had to cut it off and replace it with more energy foods, vegetables and fruits. Plus, I also drink a lot of water and juice. If your body is weak, check your diet. It is also wise to consult a dietician for advice.

Don’t skip breakfast

I am guilty as I write this. I haven’t been valuing breakfast. Sometimes I am just lost in a number of tasks I have to accomplish and think about what to eat, maybe at around 11 am or midday. This is wrong; you can’t be active if your stomach is not well fed.

Experts say that breakfast kick-starts your metabolism, helping you burn calories throughout the day. It also gives you the energy you need to get things done and helps you focus on work or school. So, regardless of how late or busy you might be, at least pack something for work and take it once you’re settled down.

Handle one task at a go

Well, I know some people have mastered the art of multitasking but personally, the few times I tried it, I didn’t have excellent results. I have learned to note down the things I have to execute throughout the day and just work on one thing at a time. It is organised, productive and saves the stress of having to deal with God knows how many things.

Have positive people around you

Negative people are good at draining your energy and hopes. They will make you believe that things can’t happen. In situations where you have much on your mind, surround yourself with people that will cheer you up. Have at least two people that you can reach out to when you need someone to talk to. I have learned that talking about things helps you heal; you just need to know the right people to talk to.

Exercise often

There is no doubt that your body needs to be active and healthy, and a quick way to that is through exercise. Health experts say that exercising regularly lowers a person’s risk of developing some diseases, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Get a fun hobby

I have discovered reading is fun. It equips me with much knowledge and new skills. There are some things that are hidden in books that you may not know until you read. Even when I am tired and just read three pages, it means a lot.

You may be interested in something else, either cooking, or traveling. Just do exactly that if it will make you relax and happy. You can also spare some time off and meditate.

Practice self-care

When was the last time you gave yourself a treat? You work hard and earn that money, but once you’re paid, you put aside money for rent and all the bills but leave yourself out. Put yourself on the list of things to financially sort at the end of the month. Go for a massage, facial, sauna, pedicure, manicure and so forth. Also, spare some time once in a while and go for a thorough health body check-up. Take yourself out for some shopping and check out the food in the new restaurant, don’t wait on people to take you out.

Reduce time spent on social media

You don’t know how much time we spend on social media scrolling through to check who posted what and what’s trending. It is easier to compare ourselves to others, looking at the fancy lifestyles people post. It’s very possible to end up stressed over such small things. That time can be spent on something else, which is more productive and saves your mobile data as well.

Get enough sleep

As a late sleeper, waking up early isn’t my cup of tea. But I have learned to cut off things that keep me occupied at night, and I am glad I can now wake up early and happy. Lack of enough sleep messes up your day and keeps you moody.
