Nigeria’s Rema gears up for performance in Kigali this weekend

Rema, a renowned afro-beat star signed under Mavin Records is set to perform in Kigali on November 20, at Kigali Arena during the All Star basketball game.

 The-21-year-old Nigerian is taking the music scene by storm on a global scale, by releasing hits that made it to Barack Obama’s summer playlist of 2019.

 Divine Ikubor best known as Rema follows a number of big artistes who have been partying in Kigali since the beginning of November such as Omah Lay and Adekunle Gold.

Having made bangers like Corny, Ginger Me, and Dumebi, music lovers in Rwanda are hyped to finally see him perform live.

Rema confirmed his performance at the all-star game on all his social media platforms where he shared an e-flier.

"You know how it be when I step on stage! Kigali Arena, Rwanda 20th November, it’s Game time!!!” reads his post.

The show will also feature some of the big artistes in Rwanda such as Kivumbi King, Bulldog, Social Mulla, Mike Kayihura and DJ Marnaud with The Target Band.

Tickets for the event are available at Rwf5000 for regular, Rwf10, 000 VIP and Rwf20, 000 for VVIP areas.

 Rema is a Nigerian singer and rapper, who rose to prominence with the release of the song "Iron Man", which appeared on Barack Obama's 2019 summer playlist. In 2019, he signed a record deal with Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records.

He released his self-titled debut EP Rema in 2019, which peaked at number one on Apple Music Nigeria. On 21 May 2019, he released the music video of "Dumebi", a major breakout song from his self-titled EP which generated 44 million streams on YouTube.

Rema is currently the brand ambassador for the popular soft drink Pepsi alongside his label mate Ayra Starr.

He has worked with big artistes such as Skepta, Tion Wayne, 6lack, Jae 5 among many others.

The 2021 All-star game will be the third edition of the competition. The first hosted an All-star game in 2013, and did so again in 2019.

The event will also feature a three-point and slam dunk contest.

In 2019, Dieudonné Ndizeye came out on top in the slam dunk contest after edging Espoir’s duo of Fabrice Rukundo and Thierry Nkundwa.
