President Paul Kagame on Friday, November 5, officiated the swearing-in of three new government officials, following recent appointments.

The new officials include Assumpta Ingabire, state minister in charge of social affairs and social protection in the Ministry of Local Government, as appointed on October 27.

Alex Kamuhire, the new Auditor General was appointed on October 13, after serving as the Government Chief Internal Auditor.

Also sworn-in is Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons (DCGP) Rose Muhisoni in the Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS).

In his address, Kagame reminded the new and long-serving officials that they should take on their responsibilities with a daily conduct and mindset that lead towards the country’s development.

He went on to commend the unified efforts in successfully responding to the pandemic, which was reflected on international scenes as "others can draw a lesson from it.”

"I want to thank the leaders present here and Rwandans at large on how we have handled this (Covid-19) and it is now evident that the severity of the pandemic has decreased,” he said.

Kagame added that the citizens have never had an issue with being vaccinated but access to the vaccine, however, there is an improvement.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, two million people are fully vaccinated and over four million have received their first dose of vaccine.

"In the near future, we are going to be manufacturing vaccines in Rwanda…the vaccine which will be produced here will first assist Rwandans and other Africans and the rest of the world if sufficient,” he said.

He pointed out that manufacturers will not only produce Covid-19 vaccine but even others including malaria and tuberculosis.

The president highlighted that the current progress is a result of the work done over the past 15 years and how those who implement the government’s policies were able to stand in the face of challenges.
