The Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has expelled the deputy special representative of the chairperson of the African Union Commission in the Horn of Africa country.

Simon Mulongo, a Ugandan top diplomat, was according to a letter from the Somali ministry to the AU Commission in Addis Ababa, accused of engaging in "activities at odds with the peacekeeping mission in the country.”

AMISOM – the peacekeeping mission in Somalia – was created by the African Union in 2007 to bring peace in the war-torn country.

"Mr Mulongo is designated ‘persona non grata’ and ordered to leave Somalia within seven days, for engaging in activities incompatible with Amisom’s mandate and Somalia’s security strategy,” reads part of the letter

The activities in which he was engaged were not specified. Uganda is one of the troop contributors to the peacekeeping mission.
