UNDERWORRA is a young Rwandan music collective that is among those  taking  lead in the hip hop music scene, by making strong energetic lyrical melodies that won the attention and admiration of many poetry lovers.

The group which is composed of four artistes such as Mazo, Kimzer, Chakratang and Banno, joined the music industry in 2017, during their last year of High school at Green Hills Academy.

According to Mazo, members of the group originated from a friendship of many years between them, and music only came later as a result of their deep interest in all arts, including fine arts and graphic design.

For him, what make their sound unique is their different backgrounds and upbringings.

"I, having grown up abroad in Germany and Belgium, Kimzer having origins in Tanzania and Chakratang being half German is what translate well our music, because we put together different cultures into our sounds,” he said.

"Another common denominator is that we are all Rwandans,” he added.

According to the members of the group, during the beginning stages of their creative journey, they took music as a hobby as they released a handful of singles for a couple years, and took the time to establish their signature experimental and diverse sounds and style.

It wasn’t until the outbreak of Covid-19 early in 2020 that the group started recording and mixing their own songs, which brought forth the birth of their multi-media house and studio YNK Studio, where they created and released their debut full length mixtape dubbed "Midnight”.

Songs like ‘Letter’, ‘Written in Drill’, and ‘You or Me’ propelled the group to a level of exposure that made them respected in the music scene.

During the creation of the process, they started working with their manager Teta Tecla and first in-house producer from Baltimore in the USA, JoMà.

The music group has featured with many of Kigali new hottest talents such as Capitallinda, Kenny K-Shot, Zed, Paintedblvck, ET, Vinxi, 99 Gang and Arnaud Gray to name a few.

In anticipation of their debut album, Underworra has generated more noise than ever before.
