Juggling two jobs at the same time is mostly known to carry benefits for the employee. However, this dual-form of employment is said to come with advantages too on the side of employers.

Career experts think this is a win-win situation whereby the employee gets an extra income while the company also gets new skills, knowledge and connections in most cases.

Gabriel Ekama CEO of BAG Innovation says that if your employee is paid little money, it only makes sense for them to get another job, and if they happen to consult you about it, let them go for it.

In that case, they will be happy with you hence happy with their job. It is very important that employees are happy, he says.

Ekama says having an employee who does more than one job is an advantage for the company, "While this can also be a threat to the employer, caused by thinking that employees are trying to find other jobs and dump their bosses, dual employment can come with advantages. We have experienced this and it comes with the advantage of connection, new skills and experience on-board.”

Fred Mfurakazi, the owner of a publishing house says that, employers should allow their workers to take on more jobs since they usually have a number of bills to cover.

"In fact they need to be facilitated. Let there be introduction of policies to favour them to do multiple jobs. But employees need to discuss this with their bosses; after all, they might need recommendation letters or something else from them.”

Ines Makuza, CEO and managing director at Kigali Agency for Entrepreneurs thinks juggling multiple jobs is good for diversity of work.

"This creates creativity and innovation in the workplace since people are dealing with different things. So, it has an advantage for the company as well as the employee,” she says.
