Sunday REG 50-44 The Hoops

Rwanda Energy Group (REG) women's basketball team clinched the 2020/2021 league title on Sunday evening at Kigali Arena, just a day after their male counterparts were declared champions in the men's category.

REG won the championship 2-1 in the best-of-three playoff finals following a 50-44 Game 3 victory. The Hoops Rwanda, who took Game 2 on Saturday, were the 2019/20 champions.

Mireille Nyota Muganza inspired REG with a sensational performance as she scored 20 points and made 34 rebounds, four assists and four steals to power them past the Hoops. Rose Paul Macuei added 18 points.

Macuei was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season.

By lifting the league title, REG women's team booked a ticket to represent the country at the FIBA Africa Zone 5 Club Championship.

"I am very happy for my girls and the team. This is a big milestone,” said a visibly excited REG head coach Esperance Mukaneza.
