PRO ZED’S SONG ‘King Kong’, and rapper Ish Kevin have been nominated for the Galsen Hip Hop Awards, a Senegalese awarding competition.

‘King Kong’ by Pro Zed ft Kenny K-shot, Kivumbi King and Ish Kevin is nominated under the category of ‘Best African collaboration’, while Ish Kevin is under the category of ‘Best African Artiste.’

The nominees were revealed last week on October 7.

According to Pro Zed, this is a huge step for upcoming artistes in Rwanda, since it’s the first time he is being recognised on an international level.

He told The New Times that it was his first time he was hearing about the Galsen Awards, which is a sign that Rwandan music is growing from just the East African region to the whole continent.

"I didn’t know that I was nominated until a fan called me on Tuesday. I don’t know much about the awards but it’s a step forward for our music which has just started to grow,” he said.

Being recognised by  a West African country that speaks French is something to celebrate, according to Ish Kevin, who is among the various nominees.

The ‘Amakosi’ hit maker said that it is time that Rwandans start to make music for the world, targeting a bigger audience.

He is among the 10 artistes in the awarding category including a renowned Kenyan rapper ,  Khaligraph Jones.

Pro Zed and Ish Kevin are both signed under Loud Sound Music, a label that has shaped many  upcoming artistes.
