An estimated 150 golfers are expected to take part in the second edition of Rwanda Summer-Golf bonanza slated for Saturday, October 16, at Falcon Golf and Country Club on the shores of Muhazi Lake in Rwamagana District.

The one-day event is being organised by Golf and More Ltd, a sports events organizer whose main focus is spurring development of local sports tourism under the ‘Visit Rwanda’ and ‘Tembera U Rwanda’ national programs.

The event will have other activities like casual cycling, kayaking (with guidelines), beach volleyball, food and drinks and Entertainment.

Doreen Iribagiza, the Executive Director of the organising firm, said the event will not be just a golf as they target to create an entertainment environment for all attendees.

She further added that guests who have never played golf will enjoy a free clinic in putting and chipping skills.

"This is a concept meant to create an experience and will not just have golfers only but other people who will take part in different activities like beach volleyball, cycling and Kayaking. Therefore we encourage other people who are not golfers to come," Iribagiza said.

All participants (players and others) must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and a mandatory coronavirus test will be taken for everyone taking part in the event.

Participants will take part in the golf tourney in five categories namely Handicap 0-9, 0-18, 19-28, seniors and ladies.

Teams of 2-4 golfers will tee off as they arrive and the top three winners in each category will get prizes.

The tournament is open for all golfers at Rwf 15, 000.

International tourists interested in participating in the tournament must adhere to national guidelines against coronavirus such as showing a PCR test before entry (only accepted test is a SARS-CoV 2 Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction) and must have arrived earlier to undergo quarantine.

Meanwhile, all other guidelines such as wearing masks, social distancing and washing or sanitizing shall be respected. Organisers will offer free masks, washing stations are available and sanitizers.
