Gasabo Court has cleared the Mayor of Ngororero- Western Province of mismanaging tax payers’ funds, The New Times has learnt.

Last Saturday, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Cyprian Nsengiyumva, for allegedly exonerating a construction company, Ecofomo, of Rwf 31million, a fine the company was supposed to pay if it breached its contract.

Ecofomo had been reportedly contracted by the district to construct a market but failed to meet the deadline.

"He has no case to answer. The prosecution discovered it could not sustain the case against the mayor,” Prosecution spokesperson, Augustin Nkusi confirmed yesterday by phone.

The arrest of the Mayor came at a time when several senior government officials have either been arrested or relieved of their duties since the beginning of the year on allegations of corruption.
