Star performers in national exams reflect on success
Tuesday, October 05, 2021

It was all joy for the best candidates as the Ministry of Education, on Monday, October 4, released the results for national examinations for primary and ordinary levels.

With the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, for these young learners, it has been a long wait as the country suspended school activities in order to deal with the threats of the virus.

As results were released the candidates could not hide their joy. The New Times talked to the best 10 performers who shared their success journey.

Best candidates in PLE

Yanisse Ntwali Rutaganira, Kigali Parent School

Before doing the national exams I thought they were going to be very complicated since it was my first experience with national exams. I was optimistic about passing, but not this better. I am grateful to my teachers and parents for their support.

Alia Ange Stevine Telimbere Ineza, Ahazaza Independent School Muhanga

It is a blessing and a pleasure being among the top performers. During exams compete with very many candidates although not everyone makes it to the top level. I am excited to be among the best.

My advice to fellow learners is that working towards your dream motivates you to work hard.

Ryan Giggs Uwayo, Kigali Parents School

I have been working hard looking forward to this. Now it is a dream that has come true.

Divine Nikita M Ihimbazwe, Saint André Muhanga

It is all joy to be part of the best candidates in this year’s national examinations. This motivates me to work even harder.

Melissa Gasaro Isimbi, Highland School Nyamata

Working hard alone wasn’t enough. I thank my teachers who have always been there for me, I thank the government for giving us an opportunity to study. I advise other pupils to study hard, pray and always listen to their parents and teachers.

Top performers in O’Level

Françoise Tumukunde, Sainte Famille Nyamasheke

I am glad I made it this far. I didn’t see this coming. Although I’ve usually topped my class, this time it felt like it is a national competition. I am very proud. My school was far from my home like one hour drive. It is a good school and I managed to utilise the library which is well stocked with books.

I can say hard work pays.

Ange Diane Umutoni, Lycée Notre Dame de Cîteaux,

My motivation has been my mother. She encourages me to work hard and be smart.

Believer Gall Hirwa, Groupe Officiel Butare

I am looking forward to more success. The sky is not the limit. I believe I can do more than this by working hard.

Arnold Pierre I Mugema, Ecole des Sciences Byimana

It has not been an easy journey but working hard in terms of revising was my way out. Doing various exercises and also making time for everything at its right time.

Agape Fille Umufasha, Ecole Notre Dame de la Providence Karubanda

My goal was to be among the best performers. I am glad I made it here. I prepared a lot since this was a success I was looking forward to. My motto has been hard work and focus and yeah, here I am.
