All set for Rwanda Open Water Swimming Championship in Karongi

The Rwanda Swimming Federation, in collaboration with the Rwanda Olympic Committee, with the support of Olympic Solidarity, organised a competition dubbed "RSF Open Water Swimming Championship” slated for Thursday, October 22, in Karongi District.

The one-day tourney will be contested by nine teams – Cercle Sportif de Kigali, Cercle Sportif de Karongi, Rwesero Swimming Club, Muhazi Canoe Sports Club, Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle Swimming Club, Les Dauphins Swimming Club, Mako Sharks Swimming Club, Rubavu Sporting Club and Gicenyi Beach Boys.

The contestants will compete in the 800, 1,000, 3,000 and 5,000 meter races, in male and female categories.

Tournament organisers say that the event was prepared in order to promote the game of Swimming that is done in open water.

Open water swimming is a discipline which takes place in outdoor water bodies such as open oceans, lakes, and rivers.
