President Paul Kagame on Saturday, September 25, joined his host President Filipe Nyusi in ceremonies for the Mozambique Armed Forces Day.

On the second day of his visit, President Kagame first joined President Nyusi at a seaside naval base where they were given a demonstration of how the country’s marine services conduct counter terror activities and support logistics operations on the coast using specialised boats.

The annual ceremony, is a big day for the Mozambican Armed Defence Forces (FADM).

Also called Revolution Day, it marks the day when the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) launched its first offensive against the Portuguese colonial rulers in 1964.

This was the day the country’s liberation struggle was started. It started in place called Chai in Cabo Delgado led by Gen Alberto Chipande who was the commander in chief of the group that did the first attack.
